| June 2002 our first real family vacation to mexico with our two girls lynne(17) & amber(11).I had booked plenty of things for us to do with the girls such as swimming with the dolphins, pirate ships etc. dolphins were the highlight of the trip, the pirate ship was more like a party boat and one of our tours we missed after walking a few miles to meet a bus that never showed, amber got stung by a jellyfish. Our last day there we walked up the beach to catch the ferry to cozumel. We promptly rented 3 scooters. we didnt get 2 blocks when lynne got scared by the crazy drivers they have there and wrecked her scooter. well thankfully she was ok. The scooter didnt fare as well nor did mine when i threw it down to help my daughter. we pushed the scooters back to the place we rented from only to find out that we now owed them 500 dollars deductible cash for the scooters. well of course we didn't have that much cash on us so the owner took me to several atms where i tried to use a little used credit card to get cash. i was so upset i couldnt remeber the pin and it locked me out. so they agreed to keep my husband hostage while me and the girls walked back to the ferry. the ferry just left so we had to wait 40 minutes in 100 degree heat. rode the ferry back. then walked the few miles back down the beach to the hotel. then had to go back the way we came up the beach back on the ferry to free my husband. needless to say at the time i didnt think it was the vacation of our dreams but a few months later when lynne turned 18 we presented her with a piece of that scooter on a chain. we all had a good laugh then but it took awhile but we will always remember that trip because of all the things that happened that at the time seemed not so funny but that are hysterical to us all now. |
