| We were on the Disney Magic, beautiful cruise ship. My 3 year old came to me and said "Mommy, I think there's something in my nose." Lo and behold, she had slipped a seashell into her nose. I happen to be an emergency physician and there was NO WAY I was going to go to the ship doctor to take care of this. Although I have taken many objects out of childrens' noses, I do know that it can be quite difficult and you need the right equipment. I searched our belongings and found a good pair of tweezers and a flashlight on my husband's key chain. My other daughter, who was 4, was given the task of holding the head as still as possible. She took it very seriously and did a great job. Luckily for us, my 3 year old was very cooperative and allowed us to remove the seashell. (It can be quite painful and irritating.) Whenever I tell this story now (she's 9 years old now), she gets soooo embarassed! She's never put anything into her nose again! |
