| We started the trip with the folks heading out a couple of days before my brother and myself. It was an 8 hour trip in hard blowing, accumulating snow in which I was driving my little brother, scared all the way. The four of us were going to spend a long weekend for Thanksgiving with my sister and her husband in their one bedroom/one bathroom apartment. The mattress for the folks was kept in the small hallway to the bathroom and actually leaned against the bathroom door. It had to be moved each time someone wanted to use the bathroom. When in use it was placed on the living room floor which it took the majority of. My brother slept on the floor and I on the couch. If my sister or her husband needed the bathroom during the night they had to walk across our folks and brother on their way. To top it off the house looked just like the one in the horror movie that comes to life. One of the nights after we had all settled for a good night of sleep, we heard the creak of the bedroom door only to be followed, not by my sister or brother-in-law heading to the bathroom but by the wetness of a super soaker being manned by my brother-in-law. That was only one of the many "jokes" he had planned for us. We had plastic wrap on the toilet during the night. Vaseline on the toilet seat too. Then the added excitement a broom rested against the door as one would try to exit only to be bonked in head with it. Of course trying to get 6 of us cleaned up each day was a job in itself. The bathroom was just off the kitchen which luckily was an large area. Making the meals was much easier than getting cleaned up or sleeping. Yes, we still love each other and they have moved to a much more group friendly home since. |
